Writtenbyhand.com is a website dedicated to educating people on the written-by-hand method.

When someone mentions hand writing , it probably brings back memories of grade school. Whether with paper and pencil, board and chalk, dry erase markers, permanent markers, paint, or quill and ink, almost everyone can remember practicing their hand writing. One thing that is unique about writing by hand, is that everyone has a personal writing style that is not naturally duplicated. Even if writing in Cyrillic characters, each person’s style will be original. This is the reasoning behind having a person sign their credit card receipts, to assume one’s identity. Each person shapes their letters, spaces letters, and slopes their letters differently. The size of each person’s lettering, and the pressure used when writing by hand, is also unique per person. Scientific studies show that one’s hand writing, can say a lot about their personality.

There are two main styles of hand writing are print, and cursive. Print requires the person writing to lift up their writing tool after each letter. Cursive looks more formal, is used for signatures, and words can be written in sometimes one fluid movement. Cursive hand writing for Latin-based characters, was invented by an Italian named Aldus Manutius. Cursive was called 'corsiva,' and actually referred to a more Italic style of writing. In an effort to make the Italic writing 'fancier,' Manutius manipulated the writing with loops and ornate ways styles, to provide what we know as modern day cursive.

Around the world, there are several different kinds of hand writing, including different characters. Japan, China, Russia, Greece, The Arabic speaking countries, and the Persian speaking countries, are just a handful of many places around the globe that use different hand written characters. Even Cyrillic has its own unique style of cursive, that sometimes completely changes the appearance of the letter from its’ printed counterpart. All-in-all no matter how different the styles of writing vary between countries, the same basic science applies.
