Can Handwriting Reveal Personalities?Ever since the emergence of the computers and the applications that allow people writing as well as correcting their mistakes without even being able to trace them, handwriting has lost from its popularity. And yet some people consider it much more personal and more expressive and as a result they are not only using it but they are also willing to learn more about how handwriting can reveal the personality of the individual who uses it. These individuals are known as graphologists and they are preoccupied with identifying the relevant features of the handwriting placed in its context in order to find out information about one’s personality.
Graphology, as a science, is rather old and much respected although many individuals have not even heard of it. It is said that the analysis of handwriting has been developed approximately 3,000 years ago by the Chinese. The handwriting styles are thought to have been analyzed also by the Romans as well as many other civilizations throughout the years and in very different corners of the world. The modern approach to this science has however been developed by French specialists and even though many argue that explain how it works and more importantly why it works, it is still being used, respected and appreciated.
The handwriting analysis is based on about 300 different features, or handwriting styles, that specialists examine in someone’s handwriting. One of them is the slant. According to graphology, the right slant may indicate a response to communication such as friendliness, responsiveness, control, intention to sell and so on. Handwriting featuring an upright slant may on the other hand indicate independence. Other features include the size of handwriting when large is considered to indicate an outgoing person and small the opposite. Moreover, the pressure exercised when writing as well as word spacing and line spacing are also among the features that graphologists analyze in handwriting.
